Today I bring you another volume of my Kitchen Fails, which I hope you will enjoy. This one is slightly different from the previous fail stories I have shared with you. María Jesús, the artist behind Like Cakes for Chocolate, shows us the evolution she has gone through over the years while learning how to perfect the beloved Red Velvet Cake.
‘Twas the year 2012, and while I have no doubt the cake tasted delicious, the decorating skills were still to be polished up. Then 2013 came with two more examples of how perseverance can bring improvement. You can already see that María Jesús had been working hard on getting better at decorating cakes! This proves the point I always make: in the kitchen, continuous effort will eventually turn into brilliant results! Nobody learns to be a baker in a day…
I can imagine that María Jesús felt quite proud of herself when she finished this Red Velvet in 2015. The photography is also progressively getting better, and that is a skill that is required when you have a food blog as cool as hers! And also, look at those chocolate piping skills. Smooth! I have to confess, I don’t have such a steady hand.
From then on she upped her game massively, producing the following beauties in 2016 and 2018.
If you are as much in love with her last work of art as I am, then you won’t miss a beat and run to her blog to get the recipe! I have been following her for a while and she has many more recipes, which I’m sure you will all enjoy.
I’ll leave you the moral of this story: if you have a passion, and it doesn’t work the first time, never stop trying! You will eventually get better at it, and as proof here is the before and after of María Jesús:
