Homemade turrón (nougat)

Homemade turrón (nougat)
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Turrón is such an esential spanish recipe that even after 7 years of leaving, I still cannot fathom the idea of Christmas without it. It’s just not right. This is what Wikipedia has to say about turrón, however it is really so much more than that. I still recall that tv ad with the jingle that was “back home for Christmas”, which I’ve identified myself with for obvious reasons.

When I was little, my mum would buy tons of turrón at the beginning of December and come Christmas Eve there was none left… Between both of us we had munched on all of it bit by bit! My favourite was the dark chocolate, yogurt and orange, a combination I’ve always particularly loved. It was crunchy on the outside and very creamy on the inside, and the orange flavour made it extra special.

With this recipe I’m dipping my foot into the creation of turrón. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  • 100g dark chocolate
  • orange peel
  • 20g lard
  1. Grate the chocolate and microwave for 20 seconds. With a spatula, stir it well until it’s completely melted.
  2. Cut the lard into small pieces and add to the chocolate.
  3. Add the orange peel and mix until smooth.
  4. Pour onto the mould and let sit in the fridge. After about an hour you can unmold and serve.

BONUS TIPS:

  • Since I was getting creative, I made a second turrón with chopped almonds instead of orange. Now you’ve got this base recipe, you can take the creative license to experiment!

And this completes this post, the review of the chocolate mould which I mentioned recently. Now I’ve tested it, I can honestly say that I can recommend it! However, once thing to have into account is that as perfect as it is for a regular chocolate bar, it isn’t ideal for turrón, which is usually a lot thicker than chocolate. So now you have all the information, use it wisely. Here is the link where I bought it.
