Ginger shot with a blender

Ginger shot with a blender
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The February month is being distinctively indecisive regarding the Berlin weather. One day it’ll be 11° beautiful degrees, only to be -7° the very next one. Everybody is sick. I’ve already been sick once and I am refusing to let the germs come at me once again. Which is why I am taking measures, that I want to share with you in this very brief but powerful in content post.

Ginger shots are ever increasing in popularity, to the point where you can even buy them ready made in common stores (which I buy from time to time). But since I am the biggest fan of do-it-yourself, as you know, I’ve tried my hand at making these kick-ass babies at home and boy are they good. So if you are a fan of getting a good kick of vitamins and health early in the morning, gather your ingredients and let’s go for it!

  • 2-3cm fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime

ALTERNATIVE RECIPE WITH ESSENTIAL OILS:

  • 2-3cm fresh ginger, peeled + 1 drop of YL ginger essential oil
  • 1 lemon + 1 drop of YL lemon essential oil
  • 1 lime + 1 drop of YL lime essential oil
  1. Number One Trick to peel ginger: use a small spoon to scrape off the skin. Once peeled, put it in the blender and blend really well.
  2. Roll the lemon with your hand against a hard surface (this will help it juice better).
  3. Repeat previous step with the lime.
  4. Slice the lemon and the lime and juice them by hand.
  5. Put a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and strain the blended ginger. You can press with the back of a spoon.
  6. If you’re doing this recipe with YL essential oils: mix all EOs with a dash of salt or sugar, then add to the rest.
  7. Mix the lemon and lime juice with the ginger and serve – preferably cold! -.

BONUS TIPS:

  • Obviously this is better drank straight after making it. However it will keep in the fridge for two days (better to keep it in a closed container).
  • This is an awesome way to give you those needed vitamins during the cold months and hopefully keep nasty germs as far away as possible.
  • Raw ginger contains magnesium, vitamins B6 and C, calcium and iron. Both lemon and lime are rich in vitamin C, but also provide magnesium, calcium and potassium. These are not only very good to boost the immune system, but magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium have incredible benefits for the female community, especially during those days of the month when we need to look after ourselves with some extra care.
