Recently I shared with you my own personal goal to be more aware of waste and try my best at purchasing products that don’t produce more plastic waste. If you missed out on that post, you can find it here. Today I want to talk a bit more in detail about the small changes that will help me get closer to my goal, which maybe will inspire you to do the same. It was this article that prompted me to write this post.
Some of these things I have been doing for years, some for a while, and some are completely new. I’m going to try and be very realistic about the fact that not everything works for everyone, and that some of the new things I try might prove more difficult and eventually will not work out for me. But I’m nothing if not a fighter!
One thing I have done for years: recycling. In Germany, where I live, it’s not compulsory but it comes close. Every house or building is provided with a series of containers of different colours: black for general, blue for paper, yellow for plastic packaging and such. The containers are emptied once per week and anything that doesn’t fit inside the container will not be removed. That way everyone makes sure not to create too much rubbish and to make sure to separate into each container correctly.
One thing I did a while ago: I bought a diva cup and got rid of tampons and pads. Not only does the environment benefit from the waste reduction, but my life was honestly changed. It is the most trustworthy menstrual product I have ever used, and if you would like more details PLEASE don’t be shy to ask! I will be more than happy to contribute to improve your life forever!
One thing I have been doing for the past year: I got rid of plastic straws and purchased these sleek glass straws that are a beauty. My smoothie pictures have been benefited as well as the environment!
Another thing I did recently: I bought a set of washable face cloths and pads
, to be able to wash off my make up and apply face toner while eliminating waste. I’m really happy with them and it’s definitely recommendable.
One thing that I tried and did not work: get some washable bamboo kitchen roll, to eliminate paper towels from my kitchen. Not that I don’t like the product, it’s just not kitchen roll so it doesn’t really substitute it. I will have to find a different alternative for this one.
One thing I will try: getting linen serviettes. Any recommendations on brands or such?
Tell me, which ways are you trying to help the environment? Little or big, they ALL matter! I’d love to hear your comments on this.
